Does Your Child Have ADHD?

Does Your Child Have ADHD?

Does your child have a hard time sitting still? Do they seem to find it hard to pay attention at school or during activities, like watching a movie or playing a board game? Children who have ADHD show an ongoing pattern of a specific set of symptoms. If you are having trouble distinguishing between ADHD and usual child behavior, schedule a consultation with the doctors here at Pediatrics of Central Florida. We have three convenient locations in Orlando, St. Cloud, and Kissimmee that provide quality medical care your child deserves.

What is ADHD?

Inattention, impulsivity, and hyperactivity are common signs of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, also known as ADHD. This neurodevelopment condition makes it difficult for children to inhibit their spontaneous responses, which can be very frustrating for the child and the parent if left untreated. Children with ADHD may appear disobedient, but that doesn't necessarily mean they are acting out on purpose. Children with ADHD who are distracted, although not overly excited, may appear to be spacey and unmotivated.

Signs and Symptoms of ADHD in Children

Children with ADHD often exhibit a combination of these behaviors:

  • Do not listen when spoken to directly
  • Have difficulty organizing tasks that require effort
  • Become easily distracted by irrelevant thoughts, or stimuli
  • Fail to follow through on instructions

To discuss additional causes and behaviors of ADHD, visit Pediatrics of Central Florida.

Treatment Options for ADHD

ADHD has no cure, but there are ways to manage this condition with medication. For instance, medicine can help decrease the signs and symptoms by enhancing attention and improving focus. A child does not outgrow this condition, and it can become even more challenging as they age. If your child is struggling with ADHD, our pediatricians can help them concentrate and succeed at all the things they love to do.
